چکیده
The 1,000 soldiers in this study were consecutive, non-selected cases who were sent to the roentgen (X-ray) department because of a low back complaint. By using their meticulous methodology of measurement, these authors conclude it is possible to accurately measure differences in lower extremity lengths as manifested by a difference in the heights of the femoral heads. The greatest difference in leg length measured was 44 mm, or about 1.75 inches.

Prevalence and risk factor analysis of lower extremity abnormal alignment characteristics among rice farmers
BACKGROUND Rice farming activities involve prolonged manual work and human-machine interaction. Prolonged farming risk-exposure may result in lower limb malalignment. This malalignment may increase the risk of lower extremity injury and physical disabilities. However, the prevalence and factors associated with lower extremity malalignment have not yet been reported. This study aimed to investig...
متن کاملSpecialty Update What’s New in Limb Lengthening and Deformity Correction
Limb-Length Discrepancy and Lower Limb Alignment The minimum threshold for treating limb-length discrepancy is debatable. In the study by O’Brien et al., an imposed discrepancy of >10 mm was perceived by twenty-nine (97%) of thirty normal subjects1. In the study by Golightly et al., an inequality of ‡20 mm was associated with progressive radiographic osteoarthritis of the knee2. There are subtl...
متن کاملAssessing of Kinematic Variables of the Lower Extremity while Walking in Military Personnel Healthy and Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
Background and Aim: Due to the long-term recovery of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and postoperative problems as well as the nonadherence to postoperative rehabilitation programs, the risk of re-injury of this ligament will increase. To ignore kinematic variables in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructed (ACLR) individuals can be one of the main causes of injury in these people. The...

BACKGROUND Severe lower extremity trauma as a devastating combat related injury is on the rise and this presents reconstructive surgeons with significant challenges to reach optimal cosmetic and functional outcomes. This study assessed early reconstructions of complex lower extremity battlefield soft tissue wounds. METHODS This was a prospective case series study of battled field injur...
متن کاملBiomechanical implications of mild leg length inequality.
The effect of mild leg length inequality (lower extremity length difference less than 3 cm) on posture and gait has been the source of much controversy. Many opinions have been expressed both for and against the need for intervention to reduce the magnitude of the discrepancy. This paper emphasizes the need for accurate and reliable assessment of leg length differences using a clinically functi...
